Bienvenido, loyal reader! Please join Bruce and Mary as they party down with lifelong friends Kevin and Rosie… in Puerto Vallarta!
We’d tracked their flights and timed it nearly perfectly, meeting them at their vacation condo in time to help haul luggage up to their third level condo situated a block from the beach. Now we’re hoofing it along Olas Altas over to our place for happy hour and dinner.
We’re at Restaurante La Ronda and that is Sebastian, our server and brother to the owner Benjamin.
Now it is Kevin and Rosie’s turn to host happy hour, on their deck. Kevin is treating us to some high end cigars from El Gato Gordo. Behind Rosie is Playa Los Muertos. After a couple beers it is off to…
Cafe Bohemio! Where, when all is said and done, Kevin enjoys his favorite meal in Vallarta…
We’re at La Caipirinha, a fantastic Brazilian steakhouse.
Mary and I have secured a table on the beach at The Sea Monkey (need a little luck for that in high season, at midday) and we espy Kevin and Rosie taking the beach route to our rendezvous. Now it’s time for some serious…
We’re in Mundo de Azulejos, a very cool tile store in Old Town.
As you can tell, Rosie is in her kind of candy store. Here at Melisa’s they sell yarn by the kilogram. Rosie ends up nearly filling an empty checked bag that she brought down specifically for that purpose. Where are Kevin and I? Having a beer at a nearby cantina, naturally.
A couple days ago, Kevin put in his order for custom made sandals here at Huaracheria Fabiola. They are ready and fit perfectly and they are one-of-a-kind as Kevin chose the color of the leather uppers, the strap design and even the particular soles. Kevin shells out 400P and we are on our way to…
Travieso’s, our favorite cantina! Here we are perched on their skinny deck overlooking Av. Insurgentes. If you’re wondering what the botanas are, we have been treated to spicy peanuts and chopped up hot dog mixed with slices of cucumber – mmm good! But Kevin won’t even try them. As a retired exec of Tyson foods, Kevin says, “I know what’s in ‘em.”
We’re sitting on the second level at Joe Jack’s Fish Shack, an incredibly busy restaurant. We were lucky to stand in line for only a few minutes before being seated. And you can tell it’s Friday because…
We’ve left Joe Jack’s and the South Side Shuffle is commencing, here a band has just set up and is playing. The South Side Shuffle is an Old Town happening, every other Friday or so during high season, in which galleries and crafts shops open up to the street, showcasing their wares, and many of them serve free wine and botanas, que bueno!
We’re inside the premier art gallery, IMO, of Old Town, Galleria Dante.
We’re at Los Muertos Brewing enjoying the best lunch special in Old Town: A large slice of pizza, salad or FFs and a pint of craft beer for only… 50P!
It’s Saturday evening, Kevin and Rosie’s last night in PV and we have reservations at Casa Isabel’s Madison South restaurant up the hill. For this dinner, Kevin has banned me from tank tops and shorts.
It’s getaway day for Kevin and Rosie so we are at the beach one final time, for breakfast at Fidencio’s.
