Bienvenido, loyal reader. Please allow Bruce and Mary to introduce their computer whiz, Francisco.
My old HP has really taken a beating, keys are missing, the microphone is broken (have to use an external one for Skype calls) and now this, lines across my screen. While not debilitating, it is annoying and I stare at this thing six hours a day working my mod job. So we are in the hunt for a computer guy in Old Town, we hope we are lucky enough to find someone like Geronides back in Merida.
So who you gonna call? Your beer store owner, naturally. Johanna directed us to this brand new Internet cafe on Calle Carranza between Constitucion y Insurgentes, where we would meet…
Francisco, resident computer guru. Here he’s looking at my computer and suspecting that the screen problem may be a loose connection. He quotes 150P, about 12 bucks, to fix the screen. We stop back later and he apologetically tells us that in actuality the screen is bad and needs replacement. We discuss replacement costs and then I dig into my wallet to pay him the 150P for his labor. But he refuses the money as he did not fix it. We finally convince him that 150P is pretty cheap for a diagnosis. On another occasion, it was minutes before I needed to log into work and my decrepit laptop could not see our modem. I dashed down to Mi Internet Cafe and a couple key punches later, I was fixed up. Again, he didn’t want to take any money but again I insisted, this time for 50P.
It’s Christmas Eve day and we are lucky to have found Francisco on duty, for you see we have an emergency. My laptop’s DVD drive just crapped out and we had planned, as we always do, to watch our favorite Christmas movie tonight, Scrooged. I had brought my backup laptop along, another HP and Francisco says sure, he could swap the drives out, next Tuesday, for 50P. I say, “I’ll pay you 100P if you do it right now.” You can see he has sprung into action. He does not have his tool kit with him today but between my Swiss Army Knife and this screwdriver he scrounged up he gets the job done.
We recommend Francisco highly. His computer fixit skills are very impressive, his demeanor unassuming and his English is quite good. His tele is: 322-222-1442. Be sure to tell him Bruce and Mary sent you.
And continuing a new feature, meet Mimi from British Columbia. We actually met her on the beach a year ago and told her of the blog and she has been following it ever since. Here she has spotted us at Mega doing our big box store shopping.
Thanks for visiting, gentle reader. As you know Bruce and Mary love comentarios on this and all subjects, so please feel free. Hasta proximo Domingo!
