Bienvenido, loyal reader. This day finds Bruce and Mary doing something a bit unusual for them, visiting a joyería, a jewelry store. Follow along to see why a woman who doesn’t even wear earrings would visit a jewelry store.
As some of you will recall Mary had a nasty fall last spring and broke her wrist. Well, the ensuing edema required the cutting and removal of her wedding band which Mary is showing to us and Diana. Actually it really wasn’t much of a ring to begin with. When we got married we were hippies living in the woods and all we could afford was a $20 band… seriously. But now she has a pretty cool idea for a new wedding band. Let’s see how this works out.
Mary and Diana are deep in discussion about the ring design that Mary has come up with. Diana does not have much English, but she has a lot of patience.
Now Diana is conferring with the techs. And yes they can, they can incorporate the old ring into this new one, pretty cool, eh? The estimate is for 3.4 gr of new 14K white gold which Mary wants for contrast.
It’s a week later and we’re back at Diamante Azul, the ring should be ready and…
It is!! In order to craft this superb interpretation of Mary’s dream, they did have to use an extra .5gr of gold over the estimate so the grand total comes to 4600P, about $359USD at current exchange rates. We happily dig out our credit card.
It is with great pleasure that I slide this beautiful ring into place. After nearly 40 years, Mary finally has a real wedding band. A karmic note: Mary’s mother Harriet reminds her that it was at her 40th anniversary that Mary’s dad Arnie presented her with a beautifully reforged band incorporating her original diamond. And my mother Margaret reminds me that our good friend Pete the jeweler did a similar and equally brilliant re-crafting of her ring.
Thanks for visiting, gentle reader. As you know well, Bruce and Mary love comentarios so please feel free. Hasta proximo domingo!
