Bienvenido, loyal reader. Please join Bruce and Mary as they check out Las Cazuelas, provecho!
Las Cazuelas is situated at the corner of Calles Madero y Constitucion in Old Town Vallarta. As some of you may recall, we have for the time being, grown a little weary of the cantina scene. Lately, we started developing an inventory of cocinas economicas that don’t mind if you bring beer, and in Las Cazuelas we have another, Cheers!
Out in the open air patio. You can see the kitchen behind Mary and the baños are off to the right. They are very clean.
Our food has arrived. This is my quesadilla con picadillo in front of Mary’s quesadilla sencillo, no meat just cheese. The picadillo is standard fare in cocinas economicas being hamburger fried up with carrots, onions, peppers and whatever else is in the kitchen. It is very nicely done here. They are small, put perfect for happy hour and only cost 10 and 15P. And they are quite tasty.
On another visit we split the torta de tinga, a shredded chicken baguette. Included in the fixin’s are fresh onion, tomato and avocado. We are surprised how good the bread is, which makes for a mighty fine torta. The cost is 25P, the chips we bought at a nearby Oxxo for 8P.
The breakfast menu. It’s not bad but at Fonda Flor, all breakfasts are 40P including cafe.
We’ve finished our happy hour and Mary is beckoning for me to take a pic of Berta the owner, busy in the kitchen. Las Cazuelas in Ingles means cooking pots, the decorative theme throughout, which is quite evident here.
Directly behind Mary is a counter that serves the many taxistas that work the taxi stand here and rush hour is about to begin. BTW: If it weren’t so bright out, you would be able to see Miel Fusion across the street.
Alas folks, I am too late, about all I can do is try to capture the energy of the kitchen with Berta the owner, in the polka dot top, in the midst of it as rush hour begins. FYI: For you night owls, Las Cazuelas is open 24/7.
Thanks for visiting gentle reader. Bruce and Mary invite all to share their PV happy hour favorites, it would be much appreciated, and of course they love comentarios on any and all subjects. Oh, a beer alert - Johana has rolled back her beer prices and again has the cheapest beer in Old Town, 186P/carton de medias! Hasta proximo Domingo!
