Bienvenido, loyal reader. Please join Bruce and Mary as they investigate a brand new semillas y cereales tienda, seeds and cereals store. Provecho!
Lo Mejor del Trigo, The Finest Wheat, just opened up about a week ago, we had noticed it on the east side of Calle Insurgentes, entre Calles F. Rodriguez y M. Dieguez, on our way home from happy hour at Travieso a couple days ago. Today we investigate.
We think we may have a winner, with this store, when we see the price of the ajo, garlic at 45P/kg for purchases of less than a kilo (when two prices are displayed the lower of the two is for a minimum purchase of one kilo). Lately the best we have found is 50P.
Game, set, match! This is definitely the place to go for semillas y cereals. The linaza molida, ground flaxseed, you see here costs 33P/kg. We had been buying from a couple different stores, both for 35P por medio kilo, for half a kilo!
Above the row of ground chile is quite the selection of cacahuates, peanuts, part of a pretty comprehensive offering of botanas, snacks, including our beloved cornies, maiz deshidratato, dehydrated corn kernels, and… in our favorite flavor, con habanero!
And Cesar cheerfully checks us out. But wait, there’s more…
Here’s the main reason we have stopped in, to see if they have pepitas de girasol, sunflower seeds. Not only do they have them, they’re 13P less than what we had been paying. Now you might be wondering what do we do with raw sunflower seeds. Well, since we cannot find them anywhere down here, we make them ourselves, salted, roasted sunflower seeds, that is, and if you’re interested in how to do that, stayed tuned:
We’re back home and Mary is preparing the brine, pouring 4 cups water into into a bowl.
Thanks for visiting, gentle reader. As usual Bruce and Mary love comentarios, so bring it on. Hasta proximo Domingo!
