Bienvenido, loyal reader. Bruce is continuing his hospitality theme, this time showing you around the restaurante Las Vigas. Provecho. And, as usual, for those of you who prefer to view these posts from the blog-site, please click here.
Even though we live in paradise we are still Mon-Fri working stiffs with daily routines the same as most of you. Now we love our jobs, doing online moderation at a workstation steps from our pool, but sometimes it gets to be a grind and we count the week down. After finishing our shifts on Thursdays, we celebrate TGIF-eve by walking down to el corazon, the heart of downtown and having some beer and grub at Las Vigas.
We like to walk to el corazon via Calle 56 and this, The Gran Real Yucatan, and the following are some of the sights along the way. We have had beers in the garden area of the bar and this is a very beautiful y muy tranquilo hotel.
The popular Henequenes Bar. We have been to this one and the one on the beach, and frankly we were not impressed. As you can see from the sign, if you want to visit, do it on Wednesdays as it is two for one.
On the corner of Calles 59 and 56 is La Plaza de la Tecnologia. This is a wonderful bazaar of techie stuff. We were able to find a batteria and replacement back cover for our cheap cell phone. You see, what happened was the battery swelled and warped the cover, a common occurrence down here, we were told. And we were happy to find that they gladly recycle batteries here.
Bob, the owner of Las Vigas, and me. Bob came down here from Pittsburgh back in 97 and opened up this very busy restaurante 5 yrs ago. It surprised us when Bob told us that his business is 95% locals, but with the excellent way he treats his clientele, in fluent Espanol, it is easy to see why. In fact, Bob has been using Spanish as his first language for so long, his English has a Mexican accent.
Thanks for visiting gentle reader. Bruce hopes you are enjoying the hospitality theme and invites you to share any of your experiences. Hasta proximo Domingo!
