Alexei, Dress Designer Extra-ordinaire!

Hola loyal reader. At this moment Bruce and Mary are hosting their good friends Deb and Bonnie (you will be treated to them next week) and while going through the fabulous Sammy and Annah wedding album (mailed to them from Dover, NH) Deb and Bonnie were once again entranced by the mother of the groom wedding dress, custom crafted by Alexei, so this post is dedicated to this truly amazing dress designer. Helen’s and Caleb’s wedding was on the horizon when Mary started investigating a little wedding dress tourism for Helen in anticipation of her Thanksgiving 2009 visit. We were aware of Alexei’s reputation by way of our research for the Living in Merida book project.  And luckily, a Brazos Abiertos fund raising fashion show featuring Alexei’s work was coming up. So, Mary, with friends, (sans moi – not my bag) attended this gala affair.

This and the following pix are from the Brazos Abiertos fund raising fashion show featuring Alexei creations exclusively.

Pretty in pink! Mary is modeling her mother-of-the-groom dress for Alexei in his studio. Mary is keenly aware of the maxim for the mother of the grooms: Show up, shut up, and wear beige, although in this case, to fit the scheme it is a pretty soft pink that Alexei achieved by custom dying the material. Que bueno!

Husband Caleb with Helen in her Alexei wedding dress. Her wedding tourism visit partially paid for the trip, with the cost of this beautiful custom made wedding dress coming in at about 1/4 of Helen’s dress budget.

Helen and Alexei.

We have three custom made dresses by Alexei and his craftsmanship and flair cannot be matched. He is intuitive and very direct and BTW speaks nearly flawless English. We strongly recommend to any of you contemplating a Merida visit and perhaps desiring your first custom-made ropa, to stop in at Alexei’s. And he isn’t just for women. Check me out in the next pic:

Centered is moi in my Alexei custom-made guayabera shirt at Sammy’s groom’s BBQ party at Patrick and Kathy Moynihan’s, parents of the bride, Annah. Left to right is Joe, bride Meryah, me, Kate sis to Patrick, Patrick, and Deb, Mary’s best friend (who is visiting us right now!)

Thanks for visiting gentle reader. Next week Bruce will be featuring Deb and Bonnie who are visiting at this moment. A little preview: They are having a ton of fun! Hasta proxima Domingo!

About escapetomex

My wife Mary and I escaped to Mexico on February 15, 2008 with no plan other than to buy one way tickets to Merida, Mexico and see how long we could stick. We were too young (still too young) to retire and we didn't have any money (still don't) but we'd had it with corporate life and Minnesota winters so we took the fling and with much serendipity it has worked out fine. This blog is the continuing story of our adventure. I hope you enjoy it and please feel to contact me with any questions or insights.
